SAN FRANCISCO BOOKSTORE + CHOCOLATE CRAWL: spend the day exploring independent bookstores and eating chocolate

Celebrate one of the primary reasons SF has such a wealth of literary culture with a critical mass of book and chocolate lovers

Charlie Jane Anders has organized what will hopefully be a recurring event with the first San Francisco Bookstore and Chocolate Crawl, which will occur this Sunday, Feb 26 beginning at Green Apple Books at or before noon (get there early for free chocolate). Get the whole schedule, which will include 8 independet bookstores and at least 4 chocolate stops, here. The event is scheduled to end at 7:30pm… can you imagine this? Will you, just for a moment? As I’m writing, 125 people have claimed they’ll attend. What a force this could be! Browse, meet new people, catch up with some you should know better. Costumes are encouraged but by no means mandatory.

Also of note: Portuguese Artists Colony is Sunday too and at a new location: Hotel Rex [526 Sutter St] @ 5pm. Themed I Can’t Hear You, the show will feature readings by Peter Orner and Kelly Luce, along with PAC’s wonderful live writing series (and the authors are a surprise this month).

So if, like me, you plan to stick out as much as you can of the 24-hr marathon reading of Charles Olson’s The Maximus Poems beginning Saturday at noon, potentially we could be heading from Ocean Beach to Green Apple Books to most of those bookstores and then to Hotel Rex… are we that kind of crazy?
