Laura Kipnis

Writer and feminist Laura Kipnis will discuss her latest book: Unwanted Advances: Sexual Paranoia Comes to Campus. A professor at Northwestern University, Kipnis is known for her spirited, sometimes provocative interrogations of contemporary gender and sexual politics. Previous books include Men, An Ongoing Investigation, The Female Thing, and Against Love: A Polemic.

Her new book emerged from the experience of finding herself the target of a Title IX complaint — and subsequent tribunal — that turned out to be a thinly veiled attempt to censor her for an essay. While Kipnis’s own professional standing hung briefly in the balance, of wider concern was an unchallenged threat to academic freedom.
