Melanie Thorne and Pam Houston read and discussed their work at The Booksmith. Thorne opened with her breakout novel Hand Me Down, and Houston read from her latest book Contents May Have Shifted [more here]. Houston was Thorne’s thesis adviser in the Graduate Creative Writing Program at UC Davis, and their relationship made for an affectionate and informative exchange: don’t miss the Q&A where they discuss aha-moments of the writing process, the joys and ills of teaching and writing “truer than true” fiction in a memoir-hungry world.
