This Saturday is polar: Head to SF MOMA for the opening of The Air We Breathe or check out the intimate Living Room Reading Series. Or do both!

In the belief that art can promote dialogue and enable understanding, The Air We Breathe brings together visual artists and poets to reflect on the subject of equal rights for same-sex couples, including the right to marry. The exhibition features works by artists including [follow these links!] D-L Alvarez, Simon Fujiwara, Robert Gober, Raymond Pettibon, Amy Sillman, and Allison Smith, along with new poetry by John Ashbery, Anne Waldman, and others.

This Saturday, 11/5 is the opening of the exhibit, which runs through February and will include the following special events:

• Nov 17: The Air We Breathe with Simon Fujiwara
• Nov 17: Curator Apsara DiQuinzio on The Air We Breathe
• Multiple dates: Simon Fujiwara’s The Boy Who Cried Wolf
• Nov 18: Symposium: The Air We Breathe

You’ve got to do this. If not now, when? It’s bi-monthly, FYI, but not exactly year-round, so you want to make it when you can. First of all, the trip alone is worth your… wait, this event is free, so save your money for date night. Or make this date night, if you nerdy like me. The living room in question belongs to, amongst others, Truong Tran, who has the house filled with (if not consisting of) his baffling and delightful creations. Refreshments, a few scores of ebullient literary youngsters, and a roster ever-filled with emerging artists complement this setting, which is, yes, at the corner of Haight.
