Friday Chicken John’s throwing a book party at the Castro for Tales of the San Francisco Cacophony Society, with a schedule of activities that spans 5.5 hours into three segments: screened episodes of Weird America, hosted by the show’s Chuck Cirino; performances by The Yes Men, Polly Superstar and the Sparkle Ponies, Lera Boroditsky, Brian Doherty, Jamie DeWolf, The Art of Bleeding, bellydancers, and the Fosettes, followed by a screening of Circus Redickuless — the award-winning 90-minute documentary of Chicken John’s crusade across the US in 1994 to perform, every night, without a script — hosted by the director, Phil Glau. Also on Friday, there’s a poetry reading amongst the piles at the old Adobe Books, with readings by Marina Lazzara, Micah Ballard, Jennifer Barone, Richard Loranger, Rod Roland and SunnylynThibodeaux.

Sunday morning, as part of SF MoMa’s countdown celebration, SF Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia will give a 9:30am reading. Then at 5pm at ATA, Small Press Traffic hosts Stephanie Young and Stephen Motika.

 Sunday‘s the start of a new series, Poetry Unbound, with readings by Ingrid Keir, Tomas Moniz, and John Rowe and hosted by Clive Matson, Richard Loranger, and Karla Brundage. Also, the lovely Jacks McNamara celebrates the publication of Inbetweenland (watch this), his first book-length collection of poems, with Liz Green, Mahfam Malek, Jezebel Deliah X, and Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha.
