WEEK IN PREVIEW: brave new voices
Featured Event: Wednesday, July 2oth-Saturday, July 23 – BRAVE NEW VOICES
A program of Youth Speaks, Brave New Voices is the longest ongoing teen slam event in the country. But that doesn’t do justice to the Grand Slam Finals, the Brave New Leaders and Teachers workshops, or feature Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party. Also This Week:
- While Monday seems to be wussying out this time around, Tuesday, July 19th, is kicking ass and taking names. It’s not every week you get a chance to Feast on Words, Party with them, and get a little Bawdy with them (Think Kink). A little overwhelmed by all the choices for chatter? Kick back with the Tuesday Night Writers, Frances Lefkowitz, and James Warner at Peri’s Silver Dollar over in Fairfax, or hit up the Zoetrope’s ALL-STORY release party to celebrate the debut of their summer issue.
- Like Bruce Springsteen? Then you don’t want to miss McCade and Mrs. Miller perform Nebraska at 1st Person Singular over in Berkeley on Wednesday, July 20th. Can’t stand Bruce Springsteen? Berkeley still has something to offer. Quite a few somethings, actually. Joseph Lease, Adam David Miller, Tiffany Higgins, Boeba Bropleh, and Claudia Castro Luna will perform at Lyrics and Dirges.
- It’s Inside Storytime this Thursday, July 21st. Join MC Ransom Stephens as he welcomes Michael David Lukas, Angie Chau, Heather Fowler, Andrew Dugas, and Maisha Z Johnson to the stage at Cafe Royale. Or catch this Thursdays at Readers‘ features: Boadiba and Doreen Stock.
- It’s a good thing Friday and Saturday are barren. You’ll have plenty of time to check out our featured event.
- Sunday, July 24th is the perfect end to a full week. Feeling lucky? Then pitch your book at Pitchapalooza. Or, spend some time in the beautiful headlands at a Summer Open House. If you’re in the city, Portuguese Artists Colony is always a great show. Or, you could pay tribute to Ruggles @ Bird and Beckett.
