QUIET LIGHTNING: just add bass

Chris Cole + Evan Karp curated Quiet Lightning 27, held at the Elbo Room. Jesus commissioned a new gospel to embrace homosexuality, which gave way to a field guide to the emotions, a drunken love confession, a demented dream and warning. We celebrated all the places we were not killed. We suspected (no, we knew) we were gay; we were always told: “out”, but only when we wanted to stay in. Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus proved that you don’t have to be smart to be funny (but drugs help), and we took a hard, sober look at what might never be occupied until we “copulate with the diplomats”. Then we stepped off.
Readers were, in the following order:
- Special guest Miles Karp on the bass
- Frank Weisberg
- Albert Flynn Desilver
- Mr. Lucky
- Mary Paynter Sherwin
- Siamak Vossoughi
- Miles Karp: set 1 outro
- Miles Karp: “The Big O”
- Katherine Chatel
- Gina Goldblatt
- Jarett Kobek [no video]
- Paul Corman-Roberts
- Annie Avery
- Miles Karp outro
