From 1801-1835, Chief Justice John Marshall defined our Constitution and established the Supreme Court’s authority to hold the President and Congress accountable.
Joel Richard Paul, author of Without Precedent, argues that we are facing a constitutional crisis, making it worth reflecting on Marshall’s pragmatic genius for forging compromise in defense of the rule of law.
