David Szalay w/ Ethan Nosowsky

October 17, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm UTC+0

Long-listed for the 2016 Man Booker Prize, David Szalay presents All That Man Is. This ambitious, form-busting novel interrogates the state of modern manhood through the stories of nine different characters, each at a different stage of life, away from home, and striving—in the suburbs of Prague, an overdeveloped Alpine village, beside a Belgian motorway, in a dingy Cyprus hotel—to understand what it means to be alive, here and now. Szalay uses the ostensibly separate narratives to craft a picture of the shared existence and predicament of the twenty-first-century man. All That Man Is masters a new kind of psychological realism that vibrates with detail, intelligence, relevance, and devastating pathos.

David Szalay is the author of London and the South-East, which won the Betty Trask Prize and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize; The Innocent; and Spring. In 2013, he was named one of Granta‘s Best of Young British Novelists. He lives in Budapest.
