Monica L. Smith Cities: The First 6,000 Years

August 13, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm PDT

Monica L. Smith is an archaeologist whose principal research interests are the human interaction with material culture, urbanism as a long-term human phenomenon, and the development of social complexity.

Smith’s newly published book, Cities: The First 6,000 Years, explores the archeology, history, and contemporary observations of cities and discusses the development of networked infrastructure, the rise of an entrepreneurial middle class, and the culture of consumption in the urban realm.

Tickets will go on sale one month before the Seminar; you can follow Long Now on TwitterFacebook and through our blog for updates on our live events, podcasts and videos on long-term thinking.
