He was born in an Afghan refugee camp in Peshawar\, Pakistan\, but he originally hails from Logar\, Afghanistan. His short stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker\, The New York Times\, Los Angeles Times\, Ploughshares\, and The O. Henry Prize Stories 2018. Manansala (she/her) is a writer and book coach from Chicago who loves books\, baking\, and bad-ass women. She uses humor (and murder) to explore aspects of the Filipino diaspora\, queerness\, and her millennial love for pop culture. She is the winner of the 2018 Hugh Holton Award\, the 2018 Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color Award\, the 2017 William F. Deeck – Malice Domestic Grant for Unpublished Writers\, and the 2016 Mystery Writers of America/Helen McCloy Scholarship. She’s also a 2017 Pitch Wars alum and 2018-2020 mentor. DESCRIPTION:Register\n\n\nKarla Huebner discusses her new book on the surrealist artist Toyen. \nPart art book and part biography\, Magnetic Woman examines the life and work of the artist Toyen (Marie Čermínová\, 1902–80)\, a founding member of the Prague surrealist group\, and focuses on her construction of gender and eroticism.
