DESCRIPTION:Scandal is “an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage.” Whether it’s the short skirt your mom wore\, or the shocking things your dad said\, something Voldemort tweeted\, or maybe it was that thing you did – we want to know! Write it down and bring your best for the next SNS! \nMarch featured writers: Rebecca Foust & Halim Madi \nBring your (three-minute) poems\, stories\, comedic sketches\, songs\, or dances\, on our (optional) theme (or any topic). \nFirst come first served. Sign-up starts at 7pm and closes when it fills up or when the reading starts\, so get there early if you want to read! (Note: Sometimes the list is full by 7:03pm) \nEach reader will have 3 minutes maximum. For prose writers this is about one and a half double-spaced pages. \nPLEASE NOTE: We are strict about the 3 minute max. When you reach your time limit at SNS\, we turn on the disco lights! Recognitions include the CP Cavafy and James Hearst poetry prizes\, and fellowships from The Frost Place\, Hedgebrook\, MacDowell\, and Sewanee. Foust was Marin County Poet Laureate in 2017-19 and works now as Poetry Editor for Women’s Voices for Change\, an assistant Editor for Narrative Magazine\, and co-producer of a new series about poetry for Marin TV\, Rising Voices. \nHalim Madi grew up in Beirut\, Lebanon. He left at 17 to study in Paris. Worked in London and Sao Paulo. And eventually landed in San Francisco. He fundraised money from friends to write a book called “Flight of the Jaguar” last year. Then actually wrote it and sent it to his friends. Recently he took his friend’s money again to write a book called “In the Name of Scandal.” He’s working on getting that one out.
