She has published more than twenty books\, including three collections of essays – Hope in the Dark\, Men Explain Things to Me\, and The Mother of All Questions – as well as a trilogy of atlases of American cities and a work of literary criticism on Eadweard Muybridge. Her memoir\, Recollections of My Nonexistence looks back on the formative people\, places\, and experiences that provided Solnit with her empowering and ever-vital notion of self\, and the voicelessness that was and still is the ordinary condition of women. \nIn 2011\, Brit Marling made an indelible mark at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival as the first female multi-hyphenate to have two films premiere side by side: “Another Earth” and “Sound of My Voice\,” both of  which she co-wrote and starred in. Since then\, she has appeared in many other films\, and Marling currently stars in “The OA\,” a critically acclaimed Netflix series that she co-created. After earning a degree in economics (and a leave of absence from college to live in Havana\, Cuba and direct a documentary there)\, Marling worked in finance before pursuing work she found more meaningful: acting and writing. On November 8\, 2018\, the community of 27\,000 people was swallowed by the ferocious Camp Fire\, which razed virtually every home and killed at least 85 people. The catastrophe seared the American imagination\, taking the front page of every major national newspaper and top billing on the news networks. It displaced tens of thousands of people\, yielding a refugee crisis that continues to unfold. \nFire in Paradise is a dramatic and moving narrative of the disaster based on hundreds of in-depth interviews with residents\, firefighters and police\, and scientific experts. Alastair Gee and Dani Anguiano are California-based journalists who have reported on Paradise since the day the fire began. His lyrical stories and compact novels awarded him the Cervantes Prize in 1980 and the Rodó Prize in 1991. \n \nAbout Julio Ramón Ribeyro: \n\n\n\n\nThe Peruvian writer Julio Ramón Ribeyro is one of the masters of the short story and a major contributor to the great flourishing of Latin American literature that followed the Second World War. In a letter to an editor\, Ribeyro said about his stories\, “in most of [them] those who are deprived of words in life find expression— the marginalized\, the forgotten\, those condemned to an existence without harmony and without voice. I have restored to them the breath they’ve been denied\, and I’ve allowed them to modulate their own longings\, outbursts\, and distress.” This is work of deep humanity\, imbued with a disorienting lyricism that is Ribeyro’s alone. The Word of the Speechless\, edited and translated by Katherine Silver\, introduces readers to an indispensable and unforgettable voice of Latin American fiction. \n\n\n\n\nKatherine Silver has translated more than thirty books\, mostly of literature from the Americas.
