THE PROSE AND LIFE OF JOSÉ SARAMAGO: margaret jull costa at the book club of california

Monday, August 13th 2012

The Center for the Art of Translation presented Margaret Jull Costa at the Book Club of California in a rare U.S. appearance by the renowned translator of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking (amongst other) literary heavyweights. You can read some background on the event here, but the main thing to know is that Jull Costa has spent decades devoted to the translation of Nobel Prize-winner José Saramago, and her devotion thereto was evident in her heartfelt readings of his prose.

The videos above contain a graceful meandering from text to context and back again in what was truly a delightful evening. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
