San Francisco’s premier humor reading series LitUp Writers (litupwriters.com) is proud to present HOW TO WRITE FUNNY: A SEMINAR ON HUMOR WRITING. This lively two-hour seminar will offer insights on the fundamentals of humor writing, and how to approach humor in both fiction and nonfiction. It will also cover the current state of the publishing industry, as well as feature advice from San Francisco literary agent Katherine Boyle. The evening will be packed with useful information, and maybe even a few laughs as well. Humor is universal, so writers of all levels and genres are encouraged to attend. The Panelists:

• Katherine Boyle has nearly 20 years’ experience in trade book publishing. She has worked with a wide variety of publishers in both in the U.S. and the U.K., and her independent literary agency, Veritas Literary Agency (veritasliterary.com), has represented multiple award winners and two international bestsellers. A Bay Area native educated at Stanford and Berkeley Universities, she is an avid hiker, champion of animals, and fan of LitUp Writers.
• Graham Gremore has performed his humorous essays at over a dozen public readings, including LitCrawl, Literary Death Match, Quiet Lightning, and Why There Are Words. He co-produces the popular humor reading series LitUp Writers. In 2011, his story “Happy Birthday (Sorry You Missed It)” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and in February 2012, his solo show, “Private Parts,” opened at SF Playhouse to rave reviews. Currently, Graham is completing his MFA in Creative Writing at San Francisco State University.
• Jennifer Lou is the founder of LitUp Writers and has authored several thousand emails and instant messages. In addition to LitUp, Jen is the Director of Publishing at Coliloquy, a digital publishing company, and serves on the Board of Youth Speaks. Jen studied English Literature at Columbia University and is currently enrolled in Stanford’s Online Writing Program.
