Hollie Hardy and Tomas Moniz hosted the 6th installment of Saturday Night Special at Nick’s Lounge in Berkeley, featuring L.J. Moore and Chanel Timmons. The 14 open mic slots were filled up by 7:08pm, and maybe 6 other authors dared put their names at the bottom; everyone who signed up ended up getting to read.
Above is the entire show, minus readings by Hollie [watch] and Matthew Sherling [I’m sorry I missed this because if you weren’t there you would probably have enjoyed it]. The roster of authors are, in order of performance, as follows:
- Tomas Moniz
- Emily Stone
- Austin Ressick
- Matthew James DeCoster
- Evan Karp
- Rusty Rebar
- Garret Murphy
- L.J. Moore
- Chanel Timmons
- Rose Booker
- Fred Dotsworth
- SB Stokes
- Sandra Wassillie
- L.J. Moore is working on a series of poems that feature musical accompaniment and is releasing bits over at her blog.
- Chanel Timmons starts off with a sweet and deadly rendition of “Killing Me Softly” and does not stop there. Watch if you know what’s good for you!
The next Saturday Night Special has the (optional) theme of “Dirty” and will be held on Saturday, February 25th. If you’re looking for a packed open mic to try out new material, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better spot than the final Saturdays of each month at Nick’s. Oh, also… Camille Dungy will be one of the featured readers (and there’s going to be a surprise well worth the wait).
Thanks Litseen for your generosity in including the open mic portion of SNS as well! Evan you were sensational. We all clearly need to remember just how close the East Bay is. Such a great evening of words!
